Community Connection ~ March 9, 2025: Your Lenten Calendar
Building on the spiritual practices shared by Sue last Sunday, we wanted to share with you an organizing principle that might help you put them into play: a Lent activity calendar!
The inspiration from this idea came from the Busted Halo blog. Your calendar will be something akin to an Advent calendar, but the item you “open” each day will be an activity that deepens your experience of Lent. The Busted Halo author created a joy-specific calendar for Eastertide (encompassing the time between Easter Sunday and Pentecost), but as we are offering this as something to incorporate into your Lenten observance, we recommend digging into each pillar of Lent - prayer, fasting, and almsgiving - to come up with your activities. You might use Sue’s offerings as inspiration and broaden from there; just be sure to make your items super concrete and doable for you and your family.
While Lent is a time of drawing closer to God, you can also use this particular activity to draw closer to those you love. Consider including your extended family in your calendar - create your schedule of activities in collaboration with each other, and complete the same activities on the same day. Perhaps you can even gather together for some of them, whether in person or remotely. As you journey towards Easter together, we hope you’ll feel more connected to your faith through this connection with yourself and the important people in your life.
What are you including in your calendar? Share your favorite activities with us on Facebook or Instagram.
