Community Connection ~ September 20, 2026: Our Community Poem

Back in August, we began writing a community poem. A community poem is a collaborative piece of writing where folks contribute their own words in response to a single prompt. Our prompt was "Desert Mission is..." and after a month of contributions, YOUR words have been woven into a unified poem, a piece of art that mirrors the way in which each person's uniqueness is woven into the fabric of our community. All contributions have been used, and nothing has been added other than the repeated refrain of "Desert Mission is." Here is what we created together (you can also download it as a PDF):

Desert Mission is
a small place with a big message!
acceptance, tolerance, respect, love
God's got you

Desert Mission is a place where you can see God's light.

Desert Mission is
a safe, accepting, fun place,
where God’s love can grow
where we find unconditional love

Desert Mission is a place to find love.

Desert Mission is
peaceful, loving, joy
peaceful: a place of peace and compassion where I’ve felt God’s presence
loving: a gracious river of flowing love
joy: the joy of the dogs!

Desert Mission is a place where all of God’s creatures are welcome.

Desert Mission is
a hot place to find cool people
friendship, love & acceptance
music!
loud laughter on our patio!
everyone is like family

Desert Mission is the place where my people are.

Desert Mission is
comfortable
beautiful setting in the desert
like it at sunset
love looking out of the windows

Desert Mission is
my favorite place to be
the only place where
I am willing to wake up
at sunrise to come
