Calling all storytellers! If you’re curious about what goes on in Sunday School but aren’t ready to commit to completing the Safe Sanctuaries training to become a classroom volunteer, we have an invitation for you…become a drop-in storyteller!

Our young people are an integral part of our church community, but only a few of our adult members have the opportunity to connect with them in a meaningful way. We’d love to weave Desert Mission’s young people more fully into the fabric of the community, and to spread the Sunday School joy to some new adults along the way! All it takes from YOU is one Sunday and one story. Here’s how it  will work:

We use a curriculum called Godly Play in our Sunday School classroom. Each story comes in a basket, tray, or box and includes manipulatives that help make the story more tangible and engaging. There is a script that provides the words you say AND the actions you do while telling the story. If you’re willing to take on a story, Jen will help you choose one to tell and set a date for you to come in and tell it. She will go through the story with you and will even set up a time to rehearse together if you’d like! On the day of your story, there will still be two other adults in the classroom - Jen and the “official” volunteer - so while you will get to participate in the whole class session, you will not be responsible for anything other than telling the story. It’s truly a low pressure, highly rewarding situation.

Reach out to Jen if you’re interested in giving storytelling a go! If you don’t have her contact info, email the office and your message will make its way to Jen from there. Thanks in advance for sharing your time, talent, and spirit with our amazing young people!
