Community Connection ~ March 29, 2026: Plant a Prayer Tree

As the season of Lent nears its end, we have one more suggestion (for now) to share in order to deepen your prayer life in preparation for Easter. This brings an idea we first shared way back in 2021 into focus in a new way: create your own prayer tree!

When we first shared this idea, it revolved around gratitude, and that’s still a great way into this activity, but you can also broaden it out to include other sorts of prayer concerns. Your prayers and blessings will become the leaves of your prayer tree. Check out these leaf templates and make as many, and as many different types, of leaves as you’d like. Write a few words connected to one of your prayers on each one, then punch a hole at the top of each leaf and loop ribbon, string, or a twist tie through each hole.

You’ll need a tree on which to hang your leaves, and there are more choices to be made here. Perhaps you use a small tree branch or twigs from your yard, or create a  tree from pipe cleaners, or popsicle sticks, or another craft material. Place your tree into some kind of vessel (like a small vase, jar, or can) and put stones, sand, or gems in the bottom to hold it in place. We highly encourage you to create a tree that you think is lovely, something you enjoy looking at. That way, you’ll feel good placing it somewhere where you’ll see it more often, which will encourage you to use it! Keep extra leaves and a writing utensil nearby so you can continue adding leaves to it. You can even invite visitors to add leaves when they stop by.

We hope that as you continue to add to - and pray over - your tree, its roots will grow deep and strong, just like your prayer life. And we’d love to see what you’ve created! Share your prayer tree with us on Facebook or Instagram.
