Community Connection ~ July 13, 2025: All About Me Bags (Part II)

Way back in 2022, we shared an idea that we touted as having “lots of replay potential.” Now that three years have passed(!), we wanted to revisit that idea and encourage you to replay it now or, if you missed it back then, try it for the first time! So without further ado, we (re-)present to you: All About Me Bags.
This activity works best with more than one person, though you can do it by yourself if you’d like. Grab a bag for each person: lunch bags, reusable grocery bags, gift bags – anything works. Choose your bags wisely, as each person will then gather five items that encapsulate who they are, and they must fit in whatever bag has been chosen.
As you select objects, consider representing accomplishments, hobbies, memorable experiences, and preferences (favorite foods, colors, movies, etc). Then share your bag! Take turns talking about the significance of your objects; everyone else can ask questions if they’d like. It’s as simple as that!
What makes this activity so replayable are the variations you can introduce:
* Share the objects in each bag without knowing whose it is, then guess whose is whose. This version works best with people you aren’t intimately connected to.
* Trade bags with someone and explain why each object is so important to that person. Introduce them as if they are the most fascinating person in the world, and each object belongs in a museum devoted to how awesome that person is. This version works best with people you ARE intimately connected to.
* Change the bag size - if you used grocery bags before, try it again with gallon Ziploc bags, or sandwich bags. How much can you reveal about yourself through only pocket-sized objects?
* Change the number of objects permitted - allow seven, or perhaps just three.
You can also play the game again in another three years (or sooner, or course) with the same guidelines in place, and see what happens. We are all constantly changing, and the objects that define us change right along with us. Not only will this activity help you reveal things about yourself to the people in your life, it will help you remain connected to each other as you are NOW rather than as you used to be.
During today’s service, Pastor Michael encouraged people to bring their All About Me bags to church next Sunday - we’d like to repeat that offer! But if you’d prefer, you can also share your objects with us on Facebook or Instagram.
