Community Connection ~ August 2, 2026: Contribute to Our Community Poem!

A community poem is a collaborative piece of writing where folks contribute their own words in response to a single prompt. Whether the words are added in order and presented without revision or written separately and then woven into a unified poem, a piece of art is created that reflects the unique contribution of each person, much like the community itself. And over the course of the next month, we’re going to create one ourselves!
In the lobby of the church, on the lefthand door to the storage closet (straight ahead as you come in from outside), there is a large sticky note with a marker hanging next to it. Our poetry prompt is “Desert Mission is…” Whenever you find yourself in the building, we invite you to contemplate the prompt and add your own word, phrase, line, or couplet to the poem. Please don’t change anyone else’s words, but feel free to add on to what someone else wrote OR take the poem in a new direction. At the beginning of September, Jen will take the sticky note(s) down, add any connective tissue that might be needed, and share the completed poem with everyone! It would be wonderful to have as many voices represented as possible, so whether or not you consider yourself a poet, please add your words to the poem. And remember, it doesn’t have to rhyme!!!
