Community Connection ~ April 27, 2025: National Tell a Story Day

Today is National Tell a Story Day! Whether you’ve heard of this holiday or not, make the most of it by sharing your story with the world, perhaps through participating in StoryCorps.
StoryCorps is a nonprofit organization dedicated to “help[ing] us believe in each other by illuminating the humanity and possibility in us all — one story at a time.” Put simply, they gather stories from people around the country and add them to an online archive that is now the largest collection of human voices ever gathered. These stories live in the U.S. Library of Congress as well as the StoryCorps online archive, some have been broadcast on NPR, and some have even been animated and posted as short videos on the StoryCorps website.
You might have your own story to tell, or perhaps there is someone in your life whose story you’d like to see preserved. Whatever you do, don’t underestimate the importance of these stories! In the spirit of National Tell a Story Day, take a step towards adding to the StoryCorps archive. If a trip to Tucson is in your future, you can meet the StoryCorps Mobile Tour there this fall - their trailer will arrive on September 11 and leave on October 24. But you can also record your story remotely, either with the assistance of a StoryCorps facilitator or by self-recording with someone you know. StoryCorps provides conversation guides, recording tips, and even resources to start an interview collection project of your own.
If you’re not quite ready to record your story, you can start by just telling it to someone else, and by asking them to return the favor. We also invite you to share your stories with us on Facebook or Instagram - we’d love to help you contribute to the illumination of humanity and possibility StoryCorps strives for.
